Rory’s Origin Story

Growing up in small-town Iowa, it was easy to be involved in every sport imaginable. But after going to college, there was a quick realization that continuing to be a sports-specific athlete was not in the cards for Rory. A quick shift in his mindset quickly led to a new love of anything related to fitness: running, lifting weights, training with friends, and the challenge of programming new routines.

After years of working out in traditional gym-settings and running half-marathons, he gave something new a try and became a coach and eventual owner of a local CrossFit gym. After countless hours of training and an increasing training age, he finally accepted the notion that “you can’t out-train a bad diet” and started to focus as much energy on nutrition as his workouts.  Newly found progress in health, strength, and recovery made nutrition a new focus for himself as well as the athletes and clients he was training.

Rory and his wife Kelly have three children: Braxton, Parker, and Haley. Outside of nutrition & fitness, they enjoy sports, family hikes, and spending as much time outdoors as possible!

Kelly’s Origin Story

Being active has always been a passion for Kelly since a young age.  From playing multiple sports, running a few half marathons, and now raising an active family, there is so much knowledge to be learned about how to be our healthiest.  Kelly joined a CrossFit gym in 2015 and developed a love for strength training.  This grew into learning about nutrition and how to fuel her body through pregnancy and postpartum journeys.

Kelly has been nutrition coaching since 2021 and has helped many clients set attainable goals and reach them with hands-on coaching.  Kelly has her NCI Level 1 Nutrition Certification as well as a certification in women’s health and hormones.  Kelly looks forward to the Origin Strength gym opening to combine a love for nutrition, helping people, and strength training.

Kelly and her husband Rory now get to live out their passion for sports and being active through their three children: Braxton, Parker, and Haley as they are busy with all their activities.

Dr. Joe’s Origin Story

Dr. Joe and his wife, Kelsey, opened Origin Health Chiropractic & Wellness in 2020 out of a passion to help people achieve their dreams of living a life full of energy, strength, and vigor. Joining forces with Rory and Kelly Witt in 2021, Origin Strength was born and has now evolved into a gym community setting with the additional partnership of Austin and Kate Luecke. Dreams in the making!

Dr. Joe knows what it is like to live with pain and discomfort - which led him searching many years for answers to his own health problems. He bounced around from physician to specialist with very little success and continued struggles. With no other options, Dr. Joe started down a path of research and self-experimentation.

“I knew in my gut that I could be better, that I could have more energy, and that I didn’t have to hurt. I knew instinctively that my body could operate at a higher level. I just had to figure out how”, says Dr. Joe.

10 + years later, the results are in. Dr. Joe has energy and is in the best shape of his life. The stomach pain and symptoms that hampered his childhood, teenage years, and early adulthood have all but vanished. He is more patient, more kind, and filled with a love of life.

Dr. Joe’s work is to help others find their health, so that they may learn to love life again. Dr. Joe and his wife Kelsey have two children: Olivia and Timothy with baby #3 due end of July 2023!

Kelsey’s Origin Story

Through a health scare as a freshman in college, Kelsey witnessed the ability of the body to heal by the Grace of God, life-saving assistance of modern-day medicine, and a holistic approach to health. Being diagnosed with chronic kidney disease at the age of 20 and given an unknown long-term prognosis, Kelsey developed a new perspective for her body’s innate intelligence - the spark that ignited her passion for health, wellness, and fitness.

“Healing certainly is not linear and often has its ups and downs along the way. Finding the right tools to support, nourish, and strengthen the body takes time, patience, and persistence,” says Kelsey.

Kelsey currently lives a life full of activity and vigor. With over a decade of experience working as a Registered Nurse, Kelsey is a firm believer in a holistic and lifestyle-based approach to health that focuses on whole nutrition, daily movement, quality sleep, creating rhythm, discovering your purpose, and surrounding yourself with community. Kelsey values staying physically active + building strength and loves movement outdoors, trying new recipes, gardening, and precious time spent with the wonderful humans in her life - especially Joe, Olivia, and Timothy. Ready or not, Moen baby #3 is expected to arrive end of July 2023! Kelsey is “training for motherhood” and can’t emphasize enough the importance of maintaining or even building strength throughout pregnancy.

Austin’s Origin Story

Austin was born and raised in Groton, a small town in northeast South Dakota. As is the case with many rural communities, he had the opportunity to do any and every sport. Always striving to gain a competitive edge, Austin spent countless hours training in the weight room. He recalls this work ethic being engrained in him at an early age as he would do pushups prior to bed in 5th grade to prepare for AAU wrestling. Fast forward to his teenage years, Austin found himself lifting weights every morning with buddies in GHS’s uninsulated storage shed while the school built the new weight room. Those early mornings would eventually lead to workouts at Augustana College where Austin would attend college and play football.

While exercising to compete at a high level was a mainstay of Austin’s life early on, he now spends time in the gym for much different reasons. As a husband and father of three little ones, he has a passion for pursuing a lifestyle of longevity through fitness, nutrition, and an all-around active lifestyle. Austin loves pushing himself and his clients to raise their standard every day.

Austin and his wife Kate have three littles: Emma, Levi and Lottie. They love to travel, play golf, spend time outdoors, go camping, and doing all things sports!

Kate’s Origin Story

The majority of Kate’s childhood was spent competing in soccer and doing all things health related to support her sport. Starting in 6th grade, Kate began formal strength and power training to cultivate her ability to compete in soccer. She played women’s soccer at Augustana University where she received her Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing and Spanish. After her college career was finished, she remained consistently active through regular workouts and pursuing a love of the outdoors.

The birth of Kate and Austin’s first child came 5 weeks premature and each pregnancy thereafter became more high risk: leaving her less active than she would have liked. Kate personally understands the difficulties of becoming a mother and the normal you once knew becoming altered. While she pursued yoga as a way of getting her health back on track, something always felt like it was missing, which is what brought her back to the world of strength training. “After being derailed with the birth of Emma, Levi and Lottie, it was hard mentally to get back into things; but I had to do it. My body and soul were created for so much more than being stationary”.

When asked why she lifts weights, Kate would tell you “What feels healthy for me is being strong; mind, body and spirit”. The fixation of her life is no longer competing at a high level of sport but instead nurturing the development of a healthy family. She strives to achieve this by putting her health first: leading by example for her children through movement, nutrition, her love of National Parks, and experiencing life outdoors. When you don’t see her at Origin Strength, you’ll find her working full-time as nursing instructor at a nearby university and as a nurse at a local hospital.
